Usb ports on my current mobo went kaputt. Looking at an asus z87 pro and possibly an i5 4670 as my current cpu is an i5 2320. Are these good choices for mobos/cpus? Any additional advice you could give is appreciated.

4690K for $10 more. With that board, you'll want the K.

I have the Z97 pro, love the board, if you decide to get an overclockable CPU the software does as good a job as I could get if I were to attempt it manually. Also the traffic shaping software is nice too.

If you want to spend the extra $50 I would recommend that z97 pro and 4690k. But yea i agree with hops the $10 extra for the 4690k is worth it.

I have the exact same setup - asus z-87 pro with a 4670k. Its great, I'm running a full 1GHz OC (to 4.4GHz) on straight air with a Hyper 212+ cooler. That OC was avhieved witht he standard basic Asus EVO OC suite.
