I had a small squad going a week or so ago. We decided it would be fun to gal drop an entire squad of heavies behind armor (particularly near enemy sundies) in order to fuck up some shit.
It seems to work quite well (meaning lots of shit got fucked up): 6 heavies with decimators could 1-shot a sundy or a pair of tanks from behind. What amazed me was how survivable the group was on the ground. They would take out the target sundy, and then proceed to om nom a bunch of armor in the area or clear the enemy foot soldiers. I remember having to loiter for 3-4 minutes once while waiting for everyone to respawn. TRG told me they called this tactic "Hot Loads". Seems fitting. I'm pretty sure this is a lot more effective than LA or Engie dropping just because the heavy assaults can loiter and be a big nuisance once they take down the target sundy.
Yup, done this during WNO a couple times when I was in charge of a half strength squad. All you need is a decent Gal pilot and rockets. It really unseats an entrenched and heavily supported enemy push. Never had a name for it though. I like it. Spawn denial at its finest
Yeah, when squad-spawning on gals was released we started using this tactic a lot against sundies and armor zergs. For some reason it fell out of use (I think the guys who used it alot stopped running ops) or we started focusing only on Sundies. Then it devolved into dropping C4 fairies which really changes the feel.
I called it 'Gal bombing.' It's something we should bring back into fashion what with all the freaking zergs. A gal drop of heavies with decimators can ruin a lot of resources-worth of stuff for no cost. It's a great trade.
